MARKETPLACE DESIGN CENTER, 2400 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA: Design and documentation for conversion of former Gimbels warehouse to 340,000 sq.ft. mid-Atlantic regional design center, a facility housing numerous product showrooms serving the interior design industry. Mentioned in the Philadelphia Inquirer by Architecture Critic, Thomas Hine, as an inexpensively achieved instant landmark in center city.
MARKETPLACE DESIGN CENTER ENTRANCE RENOVATION: Major alterations and design upgrade of building entry court, lobby and reception desk for the Marketplace Design Center in Philadelphia.
MARKETPLACE DESIGN CENTER FACADE TREATMENT: In 2001, 25 years after Joel Levinson developed the original facade treatment, the firm was commissioned to come up with a new painting scheme. This time the well-known whale mural, a new addition on the west facade had to be incorporated in JLA’s design. A painting scheme was developed which created both an abstract sea for the whales but also expressed the fabric designs that are on display in the design center itself. The design won a prize from the General Building Contractor’s Association.

TOP OF THE HILL DEVELOPMENT, Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA: Feasibility study performed for the Chestnut Hill Realty Trust for development of a multi-story, multi-use commercial complex including retail, offices and apartments. The proposal addressed the urban design implications of a SEPTA transit terminus while the organization of building components focused on pedestrian usage.

3550 SCIENCE CENTER, 3550 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA: New five story, 84,000 sq.ft. mixed-use building with retail and offices on the first floor and an HMO on the upper floors. Executed for the University City Science Center, professional services included building shell design and interior design for the main lobby and the public spaces.
- M. SHOEMAKER COMPANY, Philadelphia, PA: Multi-phase project involving design and documentation for alterations and additions to existing warehouse buildings to create executive offices and work areas. Project won first prize in Philadelphia Magazine‘s First Annual Office Interior Design Competition.
3440 SCIENCE CENTER, 3440 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA: New six story science-oriented building for the University City Science Center, housing educational, research, and business organizations. Project included interior design of main lobby and the public spaces.
HART CORPORATION HEADQUARTERS, Southampton, PA: Renovation of an existing racquetball-court building into the corporate headquarters of a national real-estate firm. JLA provided complete interior design services for the project.
HART CORPORATION ADDITION: New Addition to building previously converted by JLA from racquetball club into corporate offices. Addition of 8,600 sq.ft. includes offices and indoor swimming pool with locker rooms and exercise area.
TOMAR, SIMONOFF, ADOURIAN, O’BRIEN, KAPLAN, JACOBY & GRAZIANO, Cherry Hill, NJ: Full architectural and interior design services to completely renovate a four story, 53,000 sq. ft. existing office building for the corporate headquarters of this 150 person law firm.

PHILADELPHIA HIDE BROKERAGE COMPANY, Philadelphia, PA: Alterations and addition of new entry and lobby for three story loft building previously converted to offices by JLA.
SENTRY PARK WEST, Blue Bell, PA: Complete design services for three story, 57,000 sq.ft. office building for Hansen Properties, a major Delaware Valley office building developer. Project included interior design of main lobby and the public spaces.

RIVERSIDE PARK – OREGON HILL REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT, Richmond, VA: Feasibility study and masterplan for the development of a 176,000 sq. ft. parcel of land overlooking the James River in Richmond, VA bounded on one side by the historic residential neighborhood of Oregon Hill, and on the other side by a recreational parkland extending along the river. The project, conceived of as a catalyst for the revitalization of Oregon Hill, consisted of 200 housing units. Some units were incorporated into 2-story townhouses located along a neighborhood street and scaled in context with the existing adjacent neighborhood. The remaining units were consolidated into several 4-story “Mansion Houses” overlooking the river, using scale and architectural elements reminiscent of the many historic James River mansions in the area.

NEW COVENANT CHURCH, Philadelphia, PA: Design of chancel area and pulpit for a 2,500-seat sanctuary. Specially designed decorative wood panels along the 75 foot curving sides of the chancel area conceal sound and air circulation systems. The pulpit is designed to accommodate the interactive preaching style of the minister and to enable removal when necessary to accommodate special use of the chancel area.

BROAD STREET COMES ALIVE EXHIBITION, Philadelphia, PA: Design of major exhibition conceived and produced by the Architectural League at the Philadelphia Art Alliance dealing with the history, present and future development of Philadelphia’s central north south transportation artery and cultural spine.
ORNAMENTAL PLASTER EXHIBITION, Philadelphia, PA: Exhibition design for the Philadelphia Art Alliance sponsored by the Architectural League.
City of Philadelphia, study funded by the Urban Mass Transportation Administration, Washington, DC: “THE ENERGY CONSERVATION POTENTIAL OF SUBWAY TUNNEL STRUCTURES UTILIZING THEIR HEAT SINK/HEAT SOURCE CHARACTERISTICS”– This study investigated the potential of using existing passive energy sources provided by Philadelphia’s subway tunnel system to reduce the heating and cooling costs of adjacent buildings, thereby promoting urban revitalization and development. The Broad Street subway line was used as the subject model for the investigation. The firm provided the initial concept, coordinated and supervised the research, produced documentation and the final NTIS report, and worked cooperatively with the City of Philadelphia and the Urban Mass Transportation Administration in Washington.
